Thursday, October 24th, 1895: NL's #1 Pitcher is Kushner
The Best Pitcher Award for 1895 has been presented and the National League winner is Rick Kushner of Baltimore.

"It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Kushner. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Orioles star told reporters.

Kushner excelled with an impressive 31-18 record in 49 starts. In 437 innings he yielded 433 hits and 81 walks, while striking out 161 and compiling a fine 3.03 ERA.
Monday, September 30th, 1895: Lemmons Goes 5-6
"Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Baltimore's Candy Lemmons told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."

It definitely turn out well for Lemmons today as he collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats against New York. It turned out well for his team, too, as the Orioles knocked off the Giants 25-1 at Union Park.

C. Lemmons hit an RBI single in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, walked in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

A look at his season totals shows Lemmons with 2 home runs, .295 BA, .336 OBP, 78 RBIs and 83 runs scored.
Monday, September 30th, 1895: Giants Pitching Ravaged by Murphy
Paddy Murphy really did a number on the Giants in the Baltimore 25-1 victory. Not just anyone can get 5 hits in 6 at-bats. But Paddy Murphy did just that today for the Orioles and gave his batting average a healthy boost and sparked his club in the win.

"I felt real good in the batter's box today. I had confidence in my swing and knew that it was there and that I could get the job done," the 22-year-old center fielder said after his record-setting performance.

P. Murphy tripled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and grounded out in the 8th.

Thus far in 1895 Murphy has hit .371 with 2 home runs, 69 RBIs and scored 147 runs.
