Barrage of Hits Gets Kurtz PCL Award
Monday, October 5th, 1914: There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Gene Kurtz, the Los Angeles first baseman, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week honors.

Kurtz piled up 17 hits in 30 at-bats, 1 home run and 10 RBIs while hitting .567.

This season Kurtz is batting .352 with 6 home runs. He has scored 61 runs and driven in 72.
Parr Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits
Saturday, October 3rd, 1914: Woodrow Parr of the Oaks was unstoppable in today's 16-5 victory over the Portland Beavers at Freeman's Park. He battered them for 5 hits in 5 at-bats.

"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Oakland first baseman after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-5 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will."

W. Parr singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off P. Thayer in the 7th.

This season Parr is hitting at a .296 pace with 2 home runs, 143 RBIs and has scored 98 times.
