Thursday, October 10th, 1895: Brooklyn Bridegrooms Capture Temple Cup
They did it!
The Brooklyn Bridegrooms are the best team in the Major League Baseball!
They did it by knocking off the Louisville Colonels 11-7 today at Eastern Park to win the Temple Cup 4-2.

It was the Bridegrooms 2nd league championship.

"This team's got a lot of heart," the champs manager said. "We worked really hard. We just beat a very, very good team, an excellent team. We had to do the little things."

Brooklyn rapped up the regular season with a 80-52 record and finished first in the National League.
Sunday, October 6th, 1895: 5-5 Day for Brooks
On top of the Brooklyn hit parade today was Bradford Brooks. He went to the plate 5 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Bridegrooms to a 7-3 victory over the Louisville Colonels.

The sweet swinging right fielder told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

The skipper of the Colonels wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

B. Brooks singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Brooks is hitting .330 so far this season with 82 RBIs and 79 runs scored. He has 182 hits including 2 home runs, 21 walks and .352 OBP.
Thursday, October 3rd, 1895: Great Stroke: Christian Gets 5 Hits
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. It may only come around once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but George Christian got one today. He scattered hits all over Eastern Park to pace Brooklyn to a 16-0 victory over Louisville.

The Louisville skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Christian hit several that he is not supposed to hit."

G. Christian singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off J. Dimbleby in the 8th.

This year Christian is batting .340 with 170 hits and 7 home runs. He has scored 76 times and has batted in 85 runs.
